I have been working passionately and diligently in the field of Special Education for almost two decades. With a strong understanding of language remediation, I have successfully taught students of all abilities and diagnoses.
My background in Psychology has allowed me to have a scientific understanding of the brain and how it acquires new learning. I then trained intensely in an explicit phonics instruction approach in a private learning clinic in the city. This exemplifies what schools often refer to as Tier 3 instruction in an RtI model. In addition, I have worked on-site in schools working with students with diagnosed learning disabilities, behavioral disabilities and more. I have learners with Dyslexia as they begin or pursue higher education in order to have an understanding of their rights and counsel them on their own advocacy. Through this very particular experience, I have become well-acquainted with various options and resources available both in and out of the school walls. Well-versed in understanding the brain’s learning capacities, I have created various programs to support students with learning disabilities that have seen great success. I have also developed strong strategies in supporting students with difficulties in Math and numeracy, for students with Dyslexia and Dyscalculia.
In the last few years of my career, I have been working in consulting, where I have traveled to different schools, providing Professional Development opportunities to classroom teachers, special education technicians, administration, and more. I have personally created dozens of presentations which can be individualized for any environment, to support understanding of students' learning capacities
Throughout my career, I have had extensive experience writing, reading, and using Individual Educational Plans (IEPs). I have attended hundreds of meetings with Parents, Students, Administration, and related professionals and am comfortable at ensuring all parties can understand one another. Students with learning disabilities require a team approach of support, including parents/guardians, educators, administrators, and professionals.
